During a one month stay in Houston I needed to shine my shoes. It's funny how minor inconveniences can come to dominate your thoughts. I had forgotten to pack some cleaner/polisher for my shoes when I traveled to Houston recently and I became concerned that my shoes were beginning to look a little shabby. My shoes are made from a leather that requires "leather balm" to keep them in good condition rather than polish. Not really wanting to have to buy any shoe care products during my trip, because of the extra space they will take up in my luggage, I initially thought I'd find a local shoeshine service. The hotel where I am staying does not have any shoe shiners, but one of the ladies working the reception told me, rather impatiently, that the Marriott across the street has them on the weekends.
